Hotels We Love: Chileno Bay Resorts & Residences

Luxurious? Certainly—anything with a lobby that doubles as an open-air jungle pavilion earns that moniker—but of the understated variety. My all-white, teak and limestone room, was hardly the exception: Floor-to-ceiling windows, a massive balcony overlooking the ocean, a soaking tub with locally-made bath salts, and an outdoor shower that was, legitimately, one of the highlights of the trip.
Chileno Bay sits on a rare stretch of calm waters; I encountered a mix of stylish couples, 30s-something friend groups, and chic parents with their remarkably well-behaved children in tow, milling along the beach and around the various pools. Of course, if swimming, snorkeling, and paddle-boarding aren’t your speed, there’s a taco and mezcal bar just steps up from the shore with a different selection of local specialties every day. (The shrimp tempura tacos are particularly dangerous.)
