Honoring the ‘Āina Our Path to Sustainability

Mauna Lani is guided by the spirit of kuleana – our responsibility to care for the land (‘āina), ocean (kai), and culture of Hawai‘i Island. Through sustainable practices and community partnerships, we honor the Kohala Coast while inspiring guests and team members to be stewards of this sacred place.

  • 'Āko'ako'a Reef Restoration Program

Since 2024, we’ve proudly partnered to monitor coral and water health, helping protect our reefs. We support Āko'ako'a's mission to restore and care for the beautiful Kona Coast reefs. Guided by malama 'āina, we work alongside cultural leaders and scientists to care for our land and sea. We invite you to join us in reef restoration through fun and educational programs and hands-on experiences.

  • Mālama Honu Turtle Program

In partnership with Sea Life Park, we help juvenile sea turtles in our saltwater ponds until they’re ready to release to the wild. Every July 4th, we celebrate Turtle Independence Day with a special release ceremony and cultural festivities open to the public. Guests can join daily Fishpond Talks led by our Living Culture team at Honu Lagoon to learn about the turtles and conservation. We’re proud to protect Hawaiian green sea turtles and inspire community stewardship.

  • Community Commitment

Complimentary wellness classes for our guests to promote wellbeing amid Hawai‘i’s natural beauty. All team members receive training on Mauna Lani’s sustainability initiatives as part of their new-hire orientation. Proud participant in Hawai‘i’s Malama Hawai‘i sustainability programs, supporting responsible tourism and conservation. Active involvement in local community efforts, including beach cleanups, native species planting, and educational outreach through our Living Culture team.
