A Four-Day Journey Through the Hudson Valley The Art of Antiquing
The Hudson Valley is one of the country’s most storied regions for art and antiquing. At its heart sits Wildflower Farms, a design-forward resort.
This self-guided itinerary was curated by Wildflower Farms Owner Kristin Rapoport alongside Christie Ward and Staver Gray (Ward + Gray), the interior design duo behind the property. Drawing from years of sourcing and a shared passion for craft, they created interiors that exude a sense of place. “We imagined someone’s country retreat, and wanted each piece to feel authentic and how someone would have filled their own home.”
Discover the region’s most compelling shops, galleries, and museums, paired with moments of dining, wellbeing, creative workshops, and overnight accommodations at Wildflower Farms.

“While we may have a rough idea of a style or era we are trying to locate, we like to be open to surprises. Some of our best finds were things we never knew we needed, like the rocking chair that sits in the Wildflower Farms lobby found at an antique market with Kristin Rapoport.” — Ward + Gray

“Whether it is furniture, ceramics, or millwork, this region emphasizes materials that age well made by skilled craftsmen. That mindset naturally resists disposable design. You specify differently when you are surrounded by objects that have lasted generations, you think about longevity and how something will look in ten or twenty years.” — Ward + Gray

“Most antiques found in the Hudson Valley aren’t overly precious. They’re used, mixed, and lived with. A Swedish chest might sit beside contemporary art, a farmhouse table might double as a work surface. There’s an understanding that patina is not a flaw and it’s part of the design language. Designers here think about layering spaces to feel collected over time, not installed all at once.” — Ward + Gray

“Kingston is always a fun place to stop with several options in town and a great mix of both digging and curated shops. Nearby Maple Lawn is a favorite of ours. Owner Ron’s selection is perfectly curated without it feeling overly pretentious. The shop itself is next door to his home and it is so beautiful inside, with painted and patinated white planked walls that make just about everything stand out.” — Ward + Gray

“The workshops at Wildflower Farms, from Sheep Shearing and Pressed Flower Pottery to Floral Arranging, Paint the Season, and Floral Focaccia Making, are rooted in the mid-19th century Arts and Crafts movement that shaped the Hudson Valley. Initially, our interior designers, Ward + Gray, immersed themselves in this movement. That design influence continues to inform our daily programming. The movement focused on art and skill building as a reaction to the industrialization sought at the time. We find this ethos resonates with our guests who are on holiday from the city and work lives that are inundated with technology and efficiency. Our guests appreciate the opportunity to spend time with artists who guide them in exploring their own creativity.” — Kristin Rapoport

“We photographed the Shawangunk Ridge in nearly every season and used those images to inform the palette. In fall, deep burgundy and olive tones inspired the Ridge Cabin rugs. In the Bower Cabins, the burnt oranges and rusts of October guided the threads and local wildlife informed the motifs. Early Americana quilts inspired the custom quilt in the cabins, and motifs found on local antiques informed the folk-inspired wood furniture cut outs.” — Ward + Gray

“Many things we have found while traveling, even if we just photograph them, become inspirations for our later design projects. A painted tile on a staircase or an intricate door handle has often informed how we design our custom furniture. It is important to see how other people live and how different places value craftsmanship.” — Ward + Gray
