A journey through Hudson Valley with House of Harlow's Creative Director, Nicole Richie

House of Harlow’s founder and style icon follows her creative instincts on an Upstate escape to Wildflower Farms.

Farm to Table

Nicole joined Farm Director Will Conway for the Farmer’s Test Kitchen, where the experience began among rows of seasonal produce growing at Wildflower Farms. After handpicking ingredients at their peak, they returned to Maplehouse to transform the morning’s harvest into a simple, fresh lunch.

“I am drawn to anything that connects me more deeply to the landscape or to making something with my hands. This property really lends itself to slowing down, looking around, and engaging with where you are.”

The Thrill of the Find

Nicole’s love of vintage led her to Newburgh Vintage Emporium Warehouse, where stylist Matt Smith guided her on a private hunt through racks of vintage fashion and an eclectic assortment of objects with stories to tell. The afternoon continued at Dia Beacon, where she shifted her gaze from treasures of the past to the bold perspectives of contemporary art.

Follow in Nicole’s footsteps with our 4-Day Art & Antiquing Itinerary, curated by Ward + Gray designers Christie Ward and Staver Gray alongside Wildflower Farms owner Kristin Rapoport.

“I love objects that have already lived a life. Antiquing is really about discovering shape, material, patina, and history—and those are all things that continually inspire me creatively.”

From Flour to Flower

Back at Wildflower Farms, Nicole rolled up her sleeves for Rising Blooms, a hands-on workshop celebrating the art of sourdough. She learned the essentials of nurturing a starter before turning her attention to focaccia, shaping the dough and arranging edible flowers, seasonal vegetables, and fragrant herbs from The Farm across its surface. Part baking lesson, part artistic expression, the experience brought together her love of making things by hand and the simple pleasure of creating something beautiful from scratch.

“I love the ritual of sourdough. It forces you to slow down and work with time rather than against it. I started baking a few years ago and have kept my own starter ever since. There’s something very satisfying about maintaining something living and turning it into something you can share.”

Curated by Nicole

A little House of Harlow magic made its way to The Shop, Wildflower Farms’ curated boutique of fashion, jewelry, and one-of-a-kind pieces from independent designers and makers. During Nicole’s stay, the space played host to an intimate jewelry trunk show and private styling hour, bringing her signature vintage-inspired aesthetic to the heart of the Hudson Valley.

A selection of House of Harlow jewelry can be found at The Shop. Discover Nicole’s top picks: Hathor Teardrop Earrings, Hathor Band, and Nova Crystal Diamond Huggie Earrings.

The Scenic Route

Between her many pursuits, Nicole found plenty of reasons to linger at Wildflower Farms, from starting her day by Feeding the Animals, leisurely walks along winding trails and sun-soaked afternoons by the pool to a seat at one of Clay’s three intimate Chef’s Tables. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Shawangunk Ridge, these moments revealed another side of the Hudson Valley—one best enjoyed without an agenda.
